The purity system of ancient Israel is acquainted not only with physical impurities, but also ethical ones.15 Ethical impurity grows out of situations that are controllable and are not natural or necessary, such as delaying purification from physical impurity, polluting specific sancta, sexual transgressions, idolatry, and murder.
